Starting and Completing a Task
A task in PlanTask88 is one visit to one project: you start it when you arrive on site and mark it completed when the work is done, and PlanTask88 records the times, your GPS position, your distance from the project and any photo or note at both ends. This guide is for technicians and anyone who checks in and out of jobs.
Before You Start
- A plan that includes the project must exist in your account. See Creating and Managing Plans. If you have no plans, PlanTask88 says "Create a plan first" and opens Plans.
- Allow location access for PlanTask88 in your browser and turn on your phone's location.
- Allow camera access if you will take proof photos.
- You can have only one task in progress at a time.
Start a Task
- Press Start New Task on the Dashboard or Tasks tab, or Start Task on a plan.
- 1 Plan: tap Choose a plan… and pick the plan from the searchable list.
- 2 Project: if the plan has more than one project, tap the project you are at. With one project it is chosen for you.
- 3 System type: if the project has more than one system type, tap one.
- 4 Task type: if the project has more than one task type, tap one.
- Wait while the card shows Locating you…. PlanTask88 then shows your distance from the project.
- Optionally take a Proof photo by tapping Take a photo, and type a Description such as "Replaced faulty DVR power supply".
- Press Start Task. PlanTask88 shows "Task started" and returns to the Dashboard with your timer running.
The Location Check

The allowed radius is set by your admin (200 metres by default). A task started or completed outside it is tagged Out of range and counted as flagged in reports.
Proof Photos
- Tap the photo tile. Your phone's camera opens.
- Take the photo. A preview appears in the tile.
- To replace it, press the cross on the preview and take another.
PlanTask88 shrinks large photos before uploading so they send quickly on a weak connection. Photos are accepted in JPEG, PNG, WebP and HEIC formats.
Mark a Task Completed
- Press Mark Completed on your task card on the Dashboard, or open the task in Tasks and press Mark Completed.
- Mark Task Completed opens with the project and work type at the top.
- Wait for the location check. The same rules apply as when starting.
- Take a Proof photo if required or useful, and add a Description such as the work done or parts used.
- Press Mark Completed. PlanTask88 shows "Task completed".
The task now shows as completed with its end time and duration.

Frequently Asked Questions
It Says I Already Have a Task in Progress. Why?
Only one task can run at a time. Go to the Dashboard and press Mark Completed on the running task first.
My Connection Dropped After I Pressed Start Task. Did It Save?
Press Start Task again. If the first attempt reached the server, PlanTask88 says "That task was already started" and shows the running task instead of creating a second one.
Can I Start a Task Without GPS?
Yes, by attaching a proof photo. The task is marked out of range so your supervisor can review it.
I Forgot to Mark a Task Completed. What Happens?
After the limit your admin sets (12 hours by default) the task card turns red. If still not completed, PlanTask88 closes it automatically at the limit and marks it Auto-closed · not verified. Tell your admin so they can correct the end time.
Can I Delete a Wrong Task Myself?
No. Only admins can edit or delete tasks. Ask your admin to correct it.
