Capturing and Cropping Receipts

Updated · 612 words · 4 min read

Capturing receipts in InstaClaim means photographing or uploading each receipt or invoice and cropping it to the slip itself, so that VYROX AI can read it clearly and the claim form shows a neat image. You can add one receipt or a whole stack before analysing them together.

Before You Start

  • Lay each receipt flat in good light, with the total and date visible.
  • Allow camera access for InstaClaim when asked.
  • Images must be under 10MB each when uploaded as files.

Capture With a Phone Camera

  1. On the main screen tap the + box in the receipts panel.
  2. Your camera opens. Take the photo of the receipt.
  3. Crop Receipt opens. Follow Crop a Receipt below.
  4. To add the next receipt, press Continue: InstaClaim crops this one and opens the camera again.
  5. After the last receipt, press Done.

Capture With a Computer Webcam

On a computer with a camera, the + box opens a live camera view.

  1. Hold the receipt up to the camera.
  2. Press Capture #1 (the number counts up with each receipt).
  3. Crop it in Crop Receipt.
  4. Press Cancel in the camera view to close it without capturing.

Upload Saved Images (Computers)

On a desktop or laptop, InstaClaim shows Upload Invoice / Receipt Images under the thumbnails. Use it for scans, screenshots, emailed receipts or photos copied from your phone.

  1. Press Upload Invoice / Receipt Images.
  2. Select one or more image files and open them.
  3. Each file opens in Crop Receipt in turn. Crop it and press Continue for the next file or Done on the last one.

Files that are not images, or are over 10MB, are skipped with a message such as "Skipped 1 file(s): invoice.pdf (not an image)".

Crop a Receipt

  1. In Crop Receipt, follow the hint "Drag to select the receipt area to keep".
  2. Drag across the receipt so the box covers the whole slip, including the merchant name, date and total.
  3. Press Continue to keep the crop and add another receipt, or Done to keep it and finish.
  4. Press Cancel to close Crop Receipt without adding this image.

View, Re-Crop or Remove a Receipt

Each receipt appears as a numbered thumbnail, and the title updates, for example 4 Receipts Uploaded.

  1. Tap a thumbnail to open Receipt Image, showing the processed image.
  2. Press Re-Crop to crop the original photo again, or Close to go back.
  3. Press the X on a thumbnail to remove that receipt.
  4. Press Clear All to remove every receipt and start over.

Tips for Accurate Reading

  • One receipt per photo. Do not photograph several slips together.
  • Crop tightly but keep the whole slip, especially the total line.
  • Avoid shadows, glare and creases across the amount.
  • Faded thermal slips read better when photographed straight away.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where Is the Upload Button on My Phone?

Upload Invoice / Receipt Images appears on computers only. On a phone, use the + box and the camera.

How Many Receipts Can I Add?

As many as you have for the claim. InstaClaim reads them in batches of six, so a long claim simply takes a little longer.

I Cropped Badly. Do I Need to Take the Photo Again?

No. Tap the thumbnail and press Re-Crop to crop the original photo again.

Are My Receipts Kept if I Close the App?

InstaClaim keeps receipt images in your browser while you work. Finish the claim in one session to be safe.
