Conflict Check and Sanctions Screening
Conflict Check in LawServa searches every client, party and matter your firm holds for a name before you act, and keeps a register of each check and its outcome. Sanctions Screening checks clients against the UNSC consolidated list and the MOHA domestic list. Both are used by fee earners and compliance officers when opening a new file.
Before You Start
Running a conflict check needs the conflict check permission. Running screening needs the screening permission. Both screens sit under Compliance in the rail.
Running a Conflict Check
- Choose Conflict Check under Compliance.
- Enter the name in Name to Check.
- Press Run Check.
- Read the Result. Each match shows the file and why it matched.
- Choose the outcome and, where needed, give a reason.
- Press Record Check.
LawServa understands Malaysian names. It treats bin, binti, a/l, a/p, Sdn Bhd and honorifics sensibly, and matches common variations in the spelling of transliterated Arabic names.

The last two outcomes appear only for people whose role allows them to clear conflicts. Anyone else records Potential conflict, under review and passes the check to someone who can decide.
The Conflict Register
Below the check, the Conflict Register lists every check with when it was run, who searched, the name searched, the number of matches, the outcome, who cleared it and the reason given. Use From, Outcome and Show Period to narrow the list, or Show All to see everything. The register can be printed as a PDF.
Sanctions Screening
Sanctions Screening is a tab of Conflict Check.
- Choose Conflict Check, then the Sanctions Screening tab.
- Enter the name to screen and press Run Screen.
- Read the Result. Recent checks appear under Recent Screens.
- Any possible match waits under Open Hits. Open it, read Decide About This Hit, and press Record Decision.
The panel Lists This Firm Screens Against shows each list in use. Decided hits move to Decided Hits, where a decision can be revisited with Change Decision.
LawServa shows which version of each list it used and when it was fetched. If a list could not be fetched, it says so as a failure rather than showing a clean result. Open hits wait in a queue until someone records a decision.
The client list shows each client's screening state, so you can see at a glance who has not yet been screened.

Does a Conflict Check Search Opposing Parties Too?
Yes. The check searches clients, the parties on matters and the matters themselves.
What Happens If the Sanctions List Could Not Be Downloaded?
LawServa shows the fetch as failed rather than as a clear result, so you know the screening is not current.
Can I Print the Conflict Register?
Yes. The register has a PDF version for the period you choose.
