Client Portal

Updated · 715 words · 4 min read

The Client Portal in LawServa gives your clients their own secure sign in, where they can see the files you have shared with them, read documents you share one by one, check their bills and the money the firm holds for them, message the team on a file and send documents in. Firm staff invite clients and control access from Firm Management > Client Portal; clients use the portal from any browser.

Before You Start

Administering the portal needs the client portal permission. A client sees nothing until you give access: the portal never assumes a client may see a file just because their name is on it.

Part 1: For the Firm

Inviting a Client

  1. Go to Firm Management and open the Client Portal tab.
  2. Press Invite Client. The Invite a Client dialog opens.
  3. Choose the Client.
  4. Press Send Invitation.

The invitation link is single use and expires after a short time. If it expires, send a new one with Send Link.

Choosing What the Client Sees

  1. On Client Portal, find the client.
  2. Under Give Access to a File, choose the file and press Give Access.
  3. Share documents one by one from the file. Only shared documents appear in the portal.
  4. To pause or end a client's portal use, choose Active, Suspended or Revoked, give a Reason, and press Set Access.

The screen also shows What Clients Have Been Shown, What Clients Have Sent In and What Clients Have Written, so you can see portal activity at a glance.

Handling What Clients Send

Documents and messages a client sends arrive on the Client Portal screen. For a document, choose On Which File and File It As, then press File It, or press Turn Away if it should not be kept. Reply to a message with Send Reply. To request something from a client, use Ask For.

Part 2: For the Client

Setting Up Your Account

  1. Open the link in the invitation email from your law firm.
  2. Under Choose a Password, enter a password and enter it again in Type It Again.
  3. Press Set Password.

Next time, go to the portal and sign in with your Email and Password, then press Sign In.

My Files

My Files lists the files your law firm has shared with you. Press Open the file to see:

  • Where Things Stand: whether the file is In progress, On hold, Completed or Being opened
  • Dates to Know: dates the firm has shared with you
  • Documents: documents shared with you, which you can open
  • Messages: your conversation with the team on this file
  • Your Account on This File: bills, What Has Been Paid, and Money the Firm Holds for You

If the firm has asked you for something, it appears under The firm has asked you for something.

Writing to the Team and Sending Documents

  1. Open the file.
  2. To write, type in Write to the Team on This File and press Send Message.
  3. To send a document, go to Send Something In, use Choose the File, and press Send File.

Bills

Open a bill to see the Professional Fees, Money Paid Out on Your Behalf and The Total. Use Print or Download PDF to keep a copy. A statement of the money the firm holds for you can also be downloaded.

My Account

My Account shows Your Details and Your Recent Activity, a list of recent sign ins. Use Change Password to change your password, entering Your Current Password first. Press Sign Out when you finish.
