LawServa Risk Radar

Updated · 834 words · 5 min read

The Risk Radar in LawServa is the screen that tells a partner something is wrong before anybody complains about it. It reads the firm's own records and lists every exception it finds: client account in debit, undertakings past their date, files without completed customer due diligence, lapsed practising certificates and more. Every finding is a fixed check on your data; no AI decides what appears. It is used by partners, compliance officers, fee earners and clerks.

Before You Start

  • The Risk Radar is the first item under Compliance in the menu. Anybody who can view matters can open it.
  • Each check has its own access. You only see findings for areas you are allowed to see, so a clerk's radar may be shorter than a partner's.
  • Files screened behind a confidentiality wall are left off your radar unless you are on them. The screen tells you how many were left out, never which ones.
  • The radar reports dates already entered in the diary. It never works out a limitation period, a filing deadline or a stamping date for you, and it is not a substitute for checking the file.

How the Screen Is Laid Out

Findings are grouped by severity, not by module, because the question is "what do I have to deal with today".

BandMeaningWho Can Answer for It
Act NowCritical. A breach or a loss is happening or about to.A partner (or somebody the firm has given approval authority over that area)
Needs AttentionA warning. Something is slipping and should be dealt with soon.Anybody with a seat in the firm
Worth KnowingInformation, mostly money the firm is not collecting.Anybody with a seat in the firm

Each band shows its true count in the heading. Inside a band, findings of the same kind are gathered under one heading, with the reason for the rule stated once and up to four files listed below it. Press Show all to see the rest. A band shows at most 20 kinds of finding; the CSV download holds every one.

Filtering the Radar

  1. Open Compliance > Risk Radar.
  2. In Severity, choose All, Act Now, Needs Attention or Worth Knowing.
  3. In Finding, choose Every kind or one rule. Each rule shows how many findings it has.
  4. Press Filter.

A line above the results reads "Filtered" with how many of the total are shown. Press Show everything to clear it. If nothing matches, press Clear Filters.

Working a Finding

Each row names the file or client and says what is wrong. Under it you have up to three controls.

  1. Press the Open link (for example Open the record, or the name of the screen that fixes it) to go straight to where you deal with it.
  2. Press What Next for a short AI suggestion on what to do about this finding this morning, where your firm has AI switched on.
  3. Fix the cause. The finding leaves the radar by itself once the records no longer show the problem.

If your role cannot open the screen that clears a finding, the row says so. The finding still shows, because you need to know the firm owes it; tell the partner responsible for the file.

Answering for a Finding

When a finding is genuinely in hand but cannot be cleared yet, you can answer for it so it stops appearing.

  1. Press In Hand on the row. The Answer for This Finding dialog opens with the finding's details.
  2. In Why is it in hand?, say what is actually being done. A partner may read this months later. At least a few words are required.
  3. In Remind Me Again On, choose a date to see it again, or leave it blank to keep it off the radar until the position changes.
  4. Press Note It. Press Close to leave without saving.

Answered findings move to the Answered For table at the bottom, with What, Reason Given, By and Back On. Press the Put Back icon to return one to the radar. The earlier answer is kept in the record, not deleted. Answering the same finding again replaces the note.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why does a finding keep coming back?

The radar reads your records each time it loads. A finding stays until the cause is fixed, or until somebody answers for it. If you set a Remind Me Again On date, it returns on that date.

Why can I not press In Hand on some findings?

Findings in the Act Now band can only be answered for by a partner, or by somebody your firm has given approval authority over that area. Tell the partner on the file what is being done so they can note it.

Does LawServa work out limitation dates?

No. The radar only reports dates somebody has entered. For contentious files with no limitation date in the diary, it asks you to enter one or record that it does not apply.
