Running Tabs

Running Tabs in POSERVA and FoodServa let you keep a customer's order open and add to it over time, then settle the whole tab in one payment when the customer is ready. A tab can be named after a walk-in customer or linked to a member. It is used at bars, cafes, clubs and counters where regulars order several rounds before paying.

Before You Start

  • Any cashier who can use the Point of Sale can open and use tabs.
  • Running Tabs are off by default for each centre. The Running Tabs switch sits under Settings > Tables and can only be turned on for your centre by a VYROX system admin, so contact VYROX support to enable it.
  • Once on, the Running Tabs button appears on the Operations screen and shows how many tabs are open right now. If tabs are later switched off, tabs that are already open can still be settled.

Open a New Tab

  1. On the Operations screen, press the Running Tabs button. The Running Tabs window lists every open tab.
  2. In the name box, type a name for the tab, or start typing a member's name or mobile number.
  3. If a member matches, select them to link the tab to that member. If no member matches, press Open Tab to keep it as a walk-in tab.
  4. The new tab appears in the list.

Add Items to a Tab

There are two ways to put items on a tab.

From the tab list:

  1. Open Running Tabs and press Add Items on the tab.
  2. The Point of Sale opens for that tab. Add the items as usual.

From a sale already in the Point of Sale:

  1. Build the sale in the Point of Sale and enter the customer's name in the customer box.
  2. Press Send to Tab instead of Process Payment.
  3. If a tab with that name is already open, the Add to the Existing Tab? message asks what to do. Press Add to That Tab to add the items to it, or Start a separate tab to open a new one.

Stock is deducted the moment an item is added to the tab, exactly as for an ordinary sale, so your stock count stays correct even before the customer pays. Removing an item from the tab puts its stock back.

A tab that is currently open on a till shows At the till, so two cashiers do not work on the same tab at once.

Settle a Tab

  1. Open Running Tabs and press Add Items on the tab to bring it into the Point of Sale.
  2. Check the items and the GRAND TOTAL.
  3. Press Process Payment and take payment. See Payments and Discounts.

Once paid, the tab has no items left and can be closed in one press.

Rename a Tab

  1. In Running Tabs, press Rename on the tab.
  2. Type the New Name for This Tab and press Rename.

Close a Tab Without Charging

  1. In Running Tabs, press Close Tab.
  2. If the tab still has items on it, the Close This Tab? message tells you how many.
  3. Press Close and Put Stock Back to close it, or Keep the Tab to leave it open.

Warning

Closing a tab that still has items puts that stock back and throws the tab away. Nobody is charged for those items. If you meant to bill the customer, press Keep the Tab, open the tab and settle it at the till first.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can a Tab Be Linked to a Member?

Yes. When opening the tab, start typing the member's name or mobile and select them. The tab then shows Member: with their name.

Does Putting Items on a Tab Reduce Stock?

Yes. Stock is taken when items go on the tab. If you close the tab without charging, the stock is put back.

Why Are the Buttons on a Tab Greyed Out?

The tab is marked At the till because it is being settled on another terminal. Wait for that cashier to finish, then press Refresh.

How Do I Find a Tab Quickly?

Open Running Tabs. All open tabs are listed by name, and Refresh reloads the list.
